Glance through the window of happiness!
Depending on the material, maintenance, and climate, most windows last anywhere from 15 to 30 years. Vinyl windows have the shortest lifespan, wood and fibreglass the longest. But if your windows are older than 15 years old it is time to start paying attention. Watch for signs of leaks, rot, decay, warping, or damage. You should only have to replace windows once, maybe twice in your life.
Hardwoods like mahogany and walnut are best for the aesthetic appeal and longevity of the window. However, softwoods like cedar and pine grow faster and are more sustainable choices.
If you want to change the paint on your windows, you should use an oil-based primer and paint to make them more water-resistant and protect them from rot. Since they will be facing harsh weather at some point, it is best to use high-quality paint and apply at least two coats on each sash. You shouldn't paint the inside part of the sash where it touches the window.
If you want a lower-maintenance option and need it to be as cost-effective as possible, vinyl is likely a better option. However, if you value the aesthetic of your windows, wood is arguably more pleasing.
For the most part, our installation teams can work from the outside of the home. But in some cases, it will be necessary to work inside. Before installation, the job foreman will give you a better idea of how much access they will need inside your home.
Remove the blinds and curtains. Also remove any furniture or obstructions in proximity to your windows.
Professional installers can remove one window and replace it in about 30 minutes. They can complete a project of about ten windows in just two days.
